Still here
OK, the last month has been a blur. Sorry to all of my regular fans for the lapse. You know who you are. All two of you.
The first week of April we spent on Edisto Island with my family, which was really fun. Edisto is a wonderful, laid-back place that has been so far overlooked by major developers, thank God! It’s such a wonderful contrast to the commercialized places like Myrtle Beach, which, sadly, is what many visitors think of as representative of our state.
On Edisto, most of the roads are sand and families take their golf carts on the main road to go to the one grocery store, a miniature Piggly Wiggly. It’s just such a nice change of pace from the pointless busyness of the rest of the world! Of course, all of that will probably be lost one day in the name of progress and modernization, but I hope the residents will hold out and hold on to their land for a very long time.
Since then, I’ve stayed busy working in the vegetable garden and our front yard, which is finally starting to take shape, although one hillside still stubbornly resists the grass that’s doing its best to grow there.
I’m also making daily culinary conquests! I’ve always loved cooking, but I tend to develop some standards and then just rotate them. In the last couple of weeks, though, I think Ben’s fallen in love with me all over again over plates of Beef Wellington and Stuffed Portobellos.
Ben’s working ridiculous hours in preparation for inventory (72 hours this week, most of them overnights!), but that will hopefully end after this weekend.
Anyway, I promise I will soon resume my scintillating discussions of current events. So stay tuned. Both of you.
